Bone & Joint

The Skeleton
The skeletal system is comprised of bones and joints which provide a rigid framework for the human body, but also allow freedom of movement. The skeleton has additional roles as well: it protects vital organs, stores calcium and other vital minerals, and houses bone marrow (which serves to produce cells of the circulatory and immune system). Bones require a variety of chemicals and nutrients for their continued health, including calcium, vitamin D, trace minerals, proteins, and polysaccharides. Bones are also made stronger by a variety of eight bearing activities and exercise.

Joints provide the articulation between bones in the body. These flexible linkages are complex organizations of muscles, ligaments and tendons that provide the force for movement, as well as cartilage and synovial fluid that cushions and lubricates the bone ends to protect the joint’s integrity. Joints are susceptible to a variety of inflammatory and repetitive movement disorders, and their health requires proper attention to each of their parts.

As with many structures in the body, bones and joints can begin to wear down with age. Several factors can tax the health of our bones and joints, including sedentary lifestyle, poor diet, obesity, menopause, and certain diseases.

Bone-Up
Jarrow Formulas’ Bone-Up® is the most complete nutritional regimen for healthy bones. It starts with the finest source of calcium available: Hydroxyapatite (MCHA), the same form of calcium found in human bone tissue. The MCHA in Jarrow Formulas’ Bone-Up® is derived from chemical-free, range-grazed Australian calves (not veal calves), and prepared without heat or chemical solvents. This results in a very clean calcium source that preserves the beneficial proteins and other compounds inherent to the MCHA. MCHA provides both the organic and inorganic constituents found in human bone: Hydroxyapatite microcrystals consists of calcium, phosphorous, oxygen, and hydrogen; the trace minerals zinc, strontium, silicon and iron; and proteins, amino acids and aminoglycans.

Clinical research indicates skeletal health requires more than just calcium, a good bone-building supplement must supply more than just a calcium source. Proper bone metabolism requires also magnesium, zinc, manganese, copper, vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin K, folic acid, boron, and glucosamine (all of which are beneficial for optimizing skeletal health). That’s why all of these nutrients are included in the Bone-Up® formulation, and it’s why we can say with confidence that Bone-Up® is indeed the most healthful regimen for bones.
